Simple Tips to Lose Weight

It’s an old expression, and yet it’s true. You are what you eat. Let’s face it — we as a country live a fairly sedentary lifestyle. Combine that with poor food choices, and we’ve got a large percentage of people in this country who are obese.

So what? Well, with obesity comes an increase in disease — heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep, osteoarthritis and reduced life expectancy, among others.

I realize this is an emotional topic. It hurts. But my goal here is to help someone make that decision today to change! Most people with weight issues do wish to be in a healthy weight zone but have gone so far past the point of no return — or shall I say, they feel there is no return — and they give up. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Getting the weight off can be a rough ride. Yes, you will fall off the wagon many times. That’s just human nature, but the key is to get back on the wagon. Get on and hold on tight because YOU CAN DO THIS!

Is today the day you decide to take this seriously? Is today the day you realize you want to feel better and be healthier? I seriously hope so.

Find support groups, get out to the gym, or simply walk outside in this gloriously cool autumn weather.

Words to live by: Discipline is remembering what you want.
Here are some quick tips to addressing your diet:
Sit down to eat.
Take only one plateful.
Put down your fork or spoon between each bite.
Eat all your food in one location.
Chew, taste, savor and enjoy your food.
Don’t read while you are eating.
Eat fresh food, not a pre-made frozen dinner.
Choose more vegetables
Treat yourself one day a week — not every day.
Indulge in clear soups — they’re filling and taste great.
