World of Wheels
A Great Place to Be Awkward and Have Fun

There are only a few times in my life where my feet have felt awkward. Once when they were squeezed into water shoes and sinking me to the bottom of swimming area; again, when they were strapped to an inflexible snowboard; and (my favorite type of awkward feet) when they were laced into roller skates. Clunky, wide, and looking more eccentric than bowling shoes, roller skates are not the in-fashion item of the year. But we aren’t going for looks here. We want awkward shoes to match our awkward movements as we try to stay upright and navigate turns at high speeds! World of Wheels Skating Center in Superior, Wisconsin is the place to get your awkward on.
World of Wheels Skating Center is in fact the only indoor rink for roller skating in the Twin Ports region. In the summer, we can take to the many paved trails to fulfill our cravings for awkwardness, speed, and fun, but in the winter the skates would join the bikes in the garage if it wasn’t for World of Wheels.
The center had been owned for generations by the Wright family but due to the need to settle the estates of their parents and founders, the family had to look for new ownership. An acquaintance of the family, and one who had over 26 years experience in the world of roller skating, Steve Grapentin took the job. And, after several months of being closed, the center reopened in February of 2008 under new management.
Now World of Wheels caters to people of all ages just like it always has. For under $10 a person, anyone can enjoy Open Skate Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday. Adult/College Skate are Wednesdays and Home School Skate are Thursdays. World of Wheels supplies music across the eras—I vote disco—a snack bar, lockers, rents out skates, and also welcomes and hosts scheduled parties (birthday or private). Activities that bring families and friends together will never go out of style—regardless of the footwear required to participate!
This is a great place for wholesome family entertainment and World of Wheels challenges everyone on the rink to keep moving at all times! Roller skating is another fun way to exercise—spice up your gym routine!—regardless of the Twin Ports weather. Dress funky (but not in real loose clothing), get excited, grab some friends, and get your awkward on as you lace up at World of Wheels Skate Center!
