The Art of Remixing: Part Four- One Dress, 7 Ways

Topshop.com

Can you think of seven ways to wear this little black dress?

Are you a secret remixer? I bet you are. I bet you do it without realising. Wondering what the heck I'm talking about? Well let me enlighten you. Remixing is wearing one item of clothing repeatedly in different wears and in different pairings. In the current economic climate, we all know that it's unrealistic to buy an item that can only be worn with one other thing in our wardrobes. Remixing is also popular with fashion bloggers like myself, as most of us are students or working with a limited budget, plus remixing challenges us to make the absolute most of our wardrobe.

Over the next few weeks I will be teaching you some of the basics of remixing including remix challenges you can take up and how to get the absolute most out of your wardrobe, including new and unexpected ways to wear your clothes.

Last week I gave you an example of a remix challenge by choosing 8 items and showing you 14 different outfits created from those pieces, so this week I thought I would show you one last challenge. I'm going to choose one item and show you eight different ways to wear it.

The challenge of wearing one item in multiple ways is my absolute favourite remix challenge. The premise is simple, it doesn't demand a great deal of time and planning, and I always use pieces that I already have in my wardrobe. As a recent graduate, I won't buy anything unless I can think of multiple ways to wear it, and I often challenge myself to create as many outfits as possible when I have an impulsive splurge. I frequently posts on my own blog where I demonstrate how I have worn the same item in multiple ways, or I will take on challenges such as this one, where I wear the same item every day for a few days. It really forces you to be creative, and it can be very inspiring to see how one item, worn with slightly different pieces, can look so different.

I've chosen this black lace dress from Topshop.

Outfit One

For the first outfit, I paired the dress with a leopard belt and leopard flats and a gold collar necklace. This is a really fun, pretty look for a casual party.

Outfit Two

One of my favourite colour combinations is black and red, so I paired the black dress with a red blazer, red heels and red lipstick.

Outfit Three

For a party look, I added silver heels and a leather jacket for a night on the town.

Outfit Four

To make a wintery outfit more fun, I added a striped cardigan, red tights and ankle boots. I also added a belt to add shape to the cardigan.

Outfit Five

For outfit five, I layered a white collared shirt under the dress and added black pumps for an office-ready look.

Outfit Six

Outfit six is very trendy and chic with a black military style blazer and ankle boots.

Outfit Seven

For a cosy look, I layered a snuggly knit sweater over the dress, with black tights and ankle boots.

Outfit Eight

Finally, outfit eight mixed a fun, printed blazer with red accents through red flats and a red belt.

How would you style this dress?
