With the current economic climate, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had to rethink my usual shopping habits. These days, instead of picking up anything and everything in H&M 'just because', I really have to think about choosing pieces that are going to last instead of pieces that seem great at that moment, but end up at the back of my wardrobe, with the tags looming guiltily, still attached. To ensure I always pick the best pieces, I play the “three ways game” for every item I consider buying- I have to find three different ways to remix the item (remixing: wearing the same item in different ways and with different things). This ensures that the item will fit easily into my wardrobe, and creates three new outfits straight away. Over the next few weeks, I'll be picking some of my favourite S/S2012 items and showing you three ways to wear them.

Today, we're going to be remixing a midi skirt.

(Asos, $42.97)

I've chosen a light pink midi skirt, as pastels are so on trend right now. People tend to be a little nervous of midi skirts, but the trick is to find the right length and style to suit your shape and height. I like my midis to be somewhere between mid calf and just below the knee, but it's a matter of preference. They're also super easy to wear and not as intimidating as people thing. Below I have tips for three ways to wear the midi- casual, office and evening. The other items I have recommended to wear with them are (hopefully!) pieces you already own or easily accessible.

  1. Casual

Midi skirts are great to dress down because of their relaxed shape. Pair with a tshirt (I love a simple PWT paired with layered necklaces or a quirky band tee), a cropped denim jacket and converse for a perfect weekend look.

  2. Office

Don't think the midi can't be worn to the office! The modest length allows them to look more formal than other skirts. Wear with a white shirt, blazer and stilettos, and add black opaques if you don't feel dressy enough. Keep your the rest of your outfit in blacks, whites and greys to balance the colour of the skirt and keep it professional. This is perfect if you work in a business casual environment,.

  3. Evening

Look for a pretty blouse with a pattern that incorporates the colour of the skirt an wear with nude heels and a cardigan, or keep it simple with a black tank top, leather jacket and black heels.

How else would you wear this skirt?
