Summer Trend Guide: Neons
They say with great power comes great responsibility, and with being stylish comes the challenge of staying on trend. Each new season brings with it new trends, new styles, new colours, fabrics, cuts... the list goes on. Being stylish involves knowing what the new trends are, which ones to take and which to leave, and how to wear them without compromising your own unique style. My next mini series will be guiding you through some of the hottest trends of the summer season, and how to wear them with the wardrobe you already have the style you already possess. From summer's softs pastels to bright neons, from mullet hems to Gatsby-inspired drop-waisted dresses, each week I will be exploring a new trend for the season and bring you tips on the easiest and most stylish ways to wear each one.
This week, we're exploring neons.
Trends are over contradictory. We have seasons which are both full of brights and filled with monochrome. Seasons which are all about the mini, but also adore floor-sweeping maxis. Fashion is fickle, and this season is no exception. In the blue corner we have soft, girly pastels- mint, lilac, lemon, peach, but in the red corner we have loud, bright neons- the colour of your highlighters. Neons are not for the faint of heart, but they are a lot of fun, especially if, like me, you’re getting a little bored of pastel-overload. If you’re prepared to take a bit of a sartorial risk, neons are definitely worth a try! Here are my top tips for wearing neon this summer!
- Start small
Not ready to jump head first into neons? No problem! Neon accents are just as chic and much easier to wear. Add neon jewellery or a belt to a neutral outfit, or look for pieces with neutral piping or edging for a splash of colour.
- Anchor with neutrals
Sports luxe was a big trend this past season, and neons are a perfect way to work the trend. Wear neons with grey for a perfect sporty look, pair with white to tone the neon down, or with black to make the colour really stand out.
- Neon explosion
Fancy going a step further? Pair your neons together for a new way of colour blocking! Try a flouro yellow shirt with a bright pink skirt, bright red with magenta or bright yellow with orange for a fun look. Clash for extra effect.
- Wear with confidence!
The number one accessory you need for neons is confidence! Wear them with pride and have fun!
