Three Ways to Wear It: Black Blazer
With the current economic climate, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has had to rethink my usual shopping habits. These days, instead of picking up anything and everything in H&M 'just because', I really have to think about choosing pieces that are going to last instead of pieces that seem great at that moment, but end up at the back of my wardrobe, with the tags looming guiltily, still attached. To ensure I always pick the best pieces, I play the “three ways game” for every item I consider buying- I have to find three different ways to remix the item (remixing: wearing the same item in different ways and with different things). This ensures that the item will fit easily into my wardrobe, and creates three new outfits straight away. Over the next few weeks, I'll be picking some of my favourite items and showing you three ways to wear them.
This week I've chosen a classic black blazer.

Unlike the last two weeks, when I've picked hard-to-style Spring/Summer pieces, this week I've decided to chose something that's a little more classic but can sometimes be a struggle to wear- a classic black blazer. I know, we all know how to wear a blazer for a smart occasion, but what about wearing it for other occasions too? Today I'm going to be showing you three different ways to wear something you probably already have lurking in your wardrobe. Don't have a black blazer? That's okay! Black blazers are a year round staple and you should be able to get everywhere from Forever 21 to Macys. Take some time to find a style and a fit that you like- I personally buy all my blazers from Zara because I love the fit. They're a little pricey, but they're an investment piece.
Got your blazer? Here's how to wear it:
-
Smart casual
While in previous weeks I've done a “casual” look first, a blazer is always going to look smart. For a smart casual look, pair a fitted blazer with jeans, a simple white tshirt and ballet flats and add accessorize with a statement necklace.
-
Work wear
Okay we all know that a blazer looks great for work with a white shirt and trousers, but short suits are really in this season, so try pairing your blazer with a pair of tailored shorts and heels for a change up for summer.
-
Out on the town
One of my favourite ways to wear a blazer is with a printed dress for evening- I love florals and polka dots. The blazer will keep it chic and stop it looking too girly. Toughen up with some ankle boots and layered jewellery.
