DSM Wins Awards

Duluth~Superior Magazine was a winner at the recent MMPA (Minnesota Magazine & Publications Association) 13th annual Minnesota Publishing Excellence Awards. We won a silver for Dr. Dad’s column – a favorite among our readers as well. Dr. David Worley has developed a strong following with his humorous columns about raising children. He gives us great advice for all sorts of childhood ailments, while thoroughly entertaining us in his own delightful, inimitable style. The judges recognized his uniqueness and awarded him a Silver for Best Regular Column. Congratulations Dr. Worley and thank you for being part of DSM.

We also won a bronze for Best Overall Design, a category in which we competed with Minnesota Monthly, a much larger publication serving a much larger market. Although Minnesota Monthly took the gold, we were particularly proud to be awarded a bronze – the only publication under 30,000 to win in this category.

Our September 2008 Pet issue won for Best Single-Topic Issue, proving that judges can be just as delighted by pets and their people as the public. Special thanks to photographer Steve Burmeister, who contributed greatly to that issue.
And our final Bronze was for Best Feature Story where we won for the story we did on Martha Alworth – an icon in our community who was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Depot Foundation for her contributions to the Arts in our community.

We were proud and delighted to have won in almost every category we entered, but not as much as we are in our growth over the past year and the support we receive from you as our readers and our advertisers. We are all about the greater Duluth~Superior area and without your support we would cease to exist. That is the most important accolade we can receive. We hope to continue to surprise and delight you. And please, keep those letters and story ideas coming. We love hearing from you.
